1. Prior to disassembly, it is recommended that fishing reels that have been used in salt water be washed in hot soapy water and then rinsed thoroughly with warm water to breakdown and remove salt and impurities from the reel surface. Hard to remove substances such as dried fish row may be removed from the reel surfaces using a cloth saturated with Marine PAL.
2. Apply a single drop of Marine PAL to all screw heads. Wait one minute before removing screws. If there is a problem removing a screw, apply an additional drop of Marine PAL to the screw head and give it a sharp tap. It will then unscrew easily. This step will save time and prevent damage to parts.
3. Dissemble the entire reel and clean all parts with Marine PAL. Use a stiff bristled fiber brush to remove foreign material from teeth on all gears. Polish all sliding plates and rotating shafts with 400 wet-dry sand paper and Marine PAL. Wipe away all excess oil. This step cleans and provides a protective coating on all reel parts.
4. Lubricate all bearings, bushings, sliding pieces and springs with Reel PAL. Add a couple of drops of Reel PAL to the gear grease. This step will provide additional protection, make the reel operate much smoother and eliminate future problems caused from saltwater damage.
5. For Ultra light spinning and bait casting reels. Wash all reel parts with Marine PAL and polish sliding parts and spool shafts with 600 wet-dry sandpaper and Marine PAL. Use a stiff bristled fiber brush to clean gears and wipe away excessive oil. For lubrication, mix equal quantities of Marine PAL and Reel PAL together and use this mixture by the drop. Apply one drop of this mixture to each bearing cap. Using a Q-tip lubricate all sliding parts and rotating shafts. CAUTION!! Over oiling will reduce reel operating efficiency. Add a couple of drops of Reel PAL to the gear grease for added protection and smoother reel operation.
6. The third bottle in the Fishers kit is Lure PAL. This product is a lubricating oil that also eliminates the human odor so offensive to all species of fish. It has proven effective for lubrication and protection of fishing rod eyes, expensive lures, spinners, flashers, trolling attractors, steel line and leaders used in fresh or salt water or exposed to corrosive artificial bait cures. This product adds years of life when applied to equipment in between fishing trips and seasons.
