CHAPTER 7

The teaching machine was fantastic. The complexities of the unit read and matched the complexities of each individual human brain, mapping it out and then electronically programing the neurons.

George looked up after the others helped him take off the head gear. "If I just could do that to my students! What a way to learn..."

The Old One smiled at him. "It didn't give you all of the information it had at its disposal, either. A good portion is even beyond my comprehension, and I have spent hours with that machine. Now we have to somehow patch your Omega system into mine and do it in such a manner that we cannot be located. Once that is done, we all can start learning all over again."

"What about your wife, O.O.? Don't you want to waken her first?", David asked.

"No...She is with child and best we leave her until we are ready. I do not know how long this will take..."

Miles watched the man work with the computer in the cavern corridor and wondered if he was an albino. His eyes were blue and not red was one troubling thought, and it was almost as if he radiated some kind of internal glow from time to time. The only body hair that he had was on his head, a fact noted when he was first awakened. Nudity did not seem to bother him either.

Miles thought of the way they would have to get him into the United States. Hair dye was a must. This guy would be very noticeable and was someone no one else would forget.

George came over and sat down, also deep in thought. Suddenly he looked up and asked, "Say O.O, could you pull information from the Omega system without giving us away?"

The Old One turned and shook his head negatively. "I do not know enough to do that. I can get your program in by using a straight beam up to the satellite and using someone else carrier. Any return data would pinpoint our position because we would have to give our coordinates."

"What about taking some kind of teaching machine that we could use in conjunction with our own equipment back home?" George waited expectantly for an answer.

The Old One frowned in thought. "Not a teaching machine like we used, but there are some small pieces of equipment here we could take with us to prove your story."

Mile nodded. "Hopefully something with writing on it that we could get by customs, made of rare material or odd electronic chips of some sort. Now we have to think of something that insures our return if need be."

The Old One nodded his head. "That is a must and I can give all of us that "ace in the hole", as you would say. One thing I have learned over my long lifetime is that it takes power to deal with power..."

The others were asleep, and Miles had the watch. O.O. was keeping him company and stirred the fire. They were only one day from civilization and David had made arrangements for passports and papers, as well as properly sized and current clothing for the two guests.

Miles really liked O.O. and his wife, Gay. He hoped he was not playing Judas goat for them. "The computer never allowed me access to the entire planet's history, O.O.. What do you know about it?"

O.O. looked up at the stars and softly began speaking. "Miles, I will tell you what I know, but you must keep it to yourself. The physical Universe that you know is much larger than you could possibly believe, especially when all the dimensions are taken into consideration. We are not governed by the physical world, but the spiritual one, though there are those who would wish us not to believe so. We all have spiritual life, and it was this form that we were here first. All life in the universe is connected spiritually to God, and I mean the real God. He does have certain rules we must learn.

We did not "murder", steal, lie, and covet any more than the great apes do. Than came Gay's people..."

"They wanted the raw materials we had, right?"

"That came later. According to them, they were fighting a war, a civil war you might say, and during the time their system was close to Earth, one faction escaped to this planet. In those days their space flight was rudimentary and the only knowledge they had of earth was from probes."

"They came from the Planet of the Crossing?"

"Their world appears very bright in the skies when close. We have called it many things, including the Shining Planet. Those who had fled their world had ruled for nine counting periods."

Miles looked up a the vast panorama of stars. "How long is a counting period?"

"Their period is like ours, a complete orbit around the sun. Roughly 3600 of our years, but their orbit varies slightly."

The engineer did some quick figuring in his head. "Your talking 32,400 years. Just how long is their life span, anyway?"

The Old One sighed. "432,000 years, Miles. That is their physical life span, but only for the elite. There are many things that parallel on Earth today as it is in what you call Heaven. You might say that life in both the spiritual form and physical form is class conscious. Position has to be earned. It seems to be a Universal Law."

"They are not "Immortal" then..."

"No more than we are..."

The engineer stared into the fire. He had suspected something like this, he thought. For some reason, he knew it to be true. "Let's get back to Earth. Did the ones who fled to this planet create us?"

"I think you had better think of it as a re-engineering job, and the answer to your question is "no". That came much later..."

The President waited nervously by the campfire, listening to the call of the loon echoing eerily across the lake. His double was making appearances for him and only three men actually knew where he was at. The two with him and the Secretary of State, a personal friend that he absolutely trusted.

When he saw the group coming for the campfire he was stunned. Miles he expected, but he had three official dead men and two strangers with him, one of them pregnant. By the time greetings were spoken and everyone had sat down, he also realized the odd man was an albino, or very close to it. He actually seemed to have some sort of inner radiance to the point of luminescence. The people had not been introduced yet, but the president could recognize perfect physical specimens when he saw them, clothes or no clothes on.

Miles quickly got to the point of the meeting. "The machine is still located in the same place and we hid it well. We did bring all the recorded tapes as planned. Mr. President, I would like first off to present an individual that will only identify himself as the Old One, and his present wife, Gay."

"Well Miles, are they friendly or not?"

"Sir, these people seek only peace. They are over sixty thousand years old, chronologically speaking, and are more than our close friends. I think you are looking at you many times removed great grandfather."

The president reflected the woman was only in her twenties at best, while the man could not be over forty, if that. He suddenly smiled and held out his hand, which was gently accepted, almost shyly by the man first, and then the woman. "I welcome you to our country, yours now if you desire, and I cannot help telling you I am deeply honored by your presence. I was taken back at first by your appearance, but then we never started out this perfect, did we."

The Old One laughed and then seriously spoke. "You would have been called hairy throwbacks, and you look startled at my use of your language. Let me explain. Our machine is fully equipped with a teaching chair and Miles saw fit to use its super speed virtual reality implanting on us. It worked both ways. We made them learn Old Tongue in return and taught them how to write our alphabet. You would call the writing a form of linear B, and man did not invent it."

"Who did invent it?"

"The language was given to us long ago by those some would call gods. Gay is a hybrid of them and she carries my child. Miles has already informed you we were in something we call stasis, and the closest modern term for it is hibernation. That is part of the reason we do not show our true age. Mr. President, we are also honored to meet you, imperfectly hairy or not."

The president began to chuckle. He did not miss the firm statement "Our machine" that the Ancient One used. He suddenly wished the Secretary of State was present. The leader of the United States instinctively realized he was dealing with a very powerful intellect, and they made him generally nervous. This one also had a hell of a sense of humor...

The next morning was beautiful and the president was fly fishing one of the streams feeding the lake. He looked up and saw the Old One walk by with thirty trout on two sticks, one stick in each hand. " Hey! How did you catch them so fast?"

"You would call it a fish trap."

"They are illegal! "

"The fish will taste the same."

"You could go to jail for it under other circumstances..."

The Old One merely smiled. "What do you think this entire planet is, if not what you would call a penal colony?"

"What!"

O.O. turned and looked the leader over very carefully before replying, "If you were put somewhere against your free will and you could not leave, what would you call it? I have read the history of this country and some of the other newer ones. In each case the ruling factions of what you now call Europe used their undesirables and non-conformists to bring the gold and other commodities to collection points for shipment. I see nothing really has changed. The ruling factions made it cheap to get here and very expensive to get back. They learned well from the Nephilim..."

Miles watched the president and the Old One, The Ancient One of the Men of Fame, return with a huge breakfast for the small camp. After eating they started on the tapes.

Hesphaes was savage. His forces, acting through the Greek government had acquired a mummy from off world somewhere and a machine that would not respond in any manner to the careful probing. His agents now scattered around the world had come up with nothing but red herring trails, there were no other bodies found with the machine, and the Carpathian mountains were a blank at this time.

His own computer told him the machine had been lock coded with concepts that no amount of encryption could break, and opening the machine up would utterly destroy it.

What his computer could not tell him was the other machine had already sucked all the data it could out of the huge super computer buried in Switzerland, as per Miles instructions, and left a little virus here and there in the previously "clean" data banks. The largest and first artificial intelligence invented by man was protected from the outside getting in, but not from the inside getting out.

It was about to have a nervous breakdown.

The virus programing for Niacson's backup computer was waiting in orbit, thanks to the Old One. As soon as that machine came on the line it would also be targeted...

The President looked at the head men from every government security branch gathered around the conference table. "Gentlemen, we have the quarry and they are in a safe location until such time as we decide just what the hell we are going to do about them, as long as that time period is reasonable to them. That is what this meeting is about. They are asking for a conference with some of the top scientific personal in the world for an information exchange."

The Secretary of state looked thoughtful. "What kind of information is this, Mr. President?"

"I am not really sure, but I do not believe it is good news. They said it would all come out at the meeting, and not until that time."

The director of the N.S.A. shook his head. "Refuse them until they provide some details."

"I get the impression that would not be wise. When I implied as much the look I got chilled me to the bone. It was like the albino mutant, if that is what he is, looked right inside my mind. These are not normal citizens that we can coerce or shove around. I spent quite a few hours with that engineer, and you all listened to the tapes. He is damned smart, but not near as smart as what he brought back with him, and they would not be here at all if they did not have some kind of backup system."

The director of the new Internal Security Agency, the central command of all the organizations represented, gently laughed. "I'm sorry for laughing sir, but it just seems ludicrous to think the most powerful nation in the world fears what only five people can possibly do to it."

The President stared at him. "Let me remind you that the most powerful nation in history had men and women in every country in the world looking for these people, or at least three of them, virtually had its own borders sealed off, controls my personal supposedly secure phone system, and lo and behold, one night I get a person to person phone call on the White House inter-communications system from that engineer that tells me they are here and please set up a meeting place! At least the man said, "Please..." Now I would like to know just how they managed to do all of that? While you are it, explain to me how a trail of blood was left all over in Turkey, involving the Mossad and some other faction, and the most sophisticated intelligence community the world has ever known did not so much as have an inkling of what was going on?"

The men at the table looked terribly embarrassed. The truth of the matter was they just didn't know.

The Secretary of State gently shook his head. There was an obvious answer to the problem. Gentlemen, this is what we have to do...

Miles and the president slowly walked around the compound, each deep in thought. Camp David was "clean" as far as electronic eavesdropping was concerned. Tri-Omega no longer had access to some sections of American government, thanks to Miles little trick on Mr. Big. The others were showing O.O. and Gay around, killing time before the meeting.

"Miles, some of these men that are going to be here today will not be very friendly to the news we are going to give them. We have no machine to show them..."

"The videos of the unit plus what recordings we allow them to hear will give them pause. O.O. can be very persuasive, as you well know, and he is our wild card. We play him last if we feel we have to."

"This religious thing can be tricky... but the Secretary of State felt those experts had to also be present."

"We have our expert. All scientifically tested..."

Anton Zebreski was the most respected man in the world's scientific hierarchy, and was known for his acid tongue as well as his mental powers. This meeting he had been asked to attend, his summons coming in the wee hours of the morning the day before, had interrupted classified genetic research he felt was far more important than some political gathering and he was upset about it. Looking around the conference table and finding renown colleagues had changed his attitude. Something big was up...and real big at that.

The president looked around once more and called the meeting to order. Introductions were made, an he informed the gathering that debate rules would be in effect to some extent. It was a nervous time for him. Information was about to be tabled that had been classified for years by various governments around the world.

O.O. was watching the proceedings on closed circuit T.V., Gay resting comfortably by his side in her eighth month of pregnancy. Their time of exposure would come soon enough. From the pace of the meeting and the explanation of the latest findings from the scientific community, supposedly edited into laymen terms, he knew that this was going to take more than one or two days. That would give him time to intently study the visitors, an advantage they would not have with him.

Miles, like George, Doc and David, was quietly listening to the information exchange. The military and NASA people looked uncomfortable to him. A handful of the most powerful religious people on the planet looked bored, he thought. When they got around to discussing God and their dogma, that will change. It was the next day that George was called upon and Miles knew the ball would start rolling fast.

Zebreski was chairing the floor, having been elected by the assembly on the first day. Studying the format before him, he recognized George's style of writing. So be it, Zebreski thought, he would lead out with George. He called for Landau to speak.

"Dr. Landau, it seems you are our current expert in dating civilizations. At what point do you feel neolithic man became truly modern in his thinking?"

George glanced at his notes and looked up from the table. "When he discovered how to make fire. Note that I said "make", not use."

" We all know that information is not available scientifically to us, but this is a theoretical question in any respect. Mankind has used fire for a million years."

"We were not modern man until roughly 70,000 years ago. Other than certain genetic material that relates us back through the apes all the way to hollow worms millions of years ago, and data which you supplied with your latest findings which we heard yesterday, I feel positively that mankind making fire could not have occurred any earlier.

Yesterday we found out that a Neanderthal mummy was discovered in an Alpine glacier eight months ago, and you analyzed it. I am sure we will have more of these findings as time goes on, publicized or not."

"We kept it secret until we were absolutely sure of our findings, and that occurred one week ago. That mummy was 38,000 years old. You are talking 70,000 years and that is quite a difference."

"We are also talking about two different species, at the very least. You were very adamant about that yesterday and I trust your findings. To me the most exciting thing you mentioned was the analysis of the brain. You stated it was closer to that of a gorilla than that of modern man."

Zebreski smiled. "It is a well known fact our brains are different than the other primates, we might say wired differently, and are not quite laid out the same way. The Neanderthal brain is quite different from the Cro-Magnon mummies we have inspected, and yet it is not the same as a great ape, either."

"Your people say our common female ancestor dates back to about the same period the Neanderthal split from the common line human stock, within 20,000 years just for the sake of argument. This species would be the pre-Cro-magnon, everything occurring from 130,000 years to the present, and we have an anomaly. Can you explain this further to us?"

"Simply, there is a missing link. The next common ancestor has no voice box, and the brain pan is not quite the same. We mutated and this had to have occurred between 60,000 and 100,000 years ago."

"Don't you find it strange that the Neanderthal showed little if any genetic progress, while we became what we are in this short space of time? " George inquired.

"Given the fact most mutations do not last in general, the natural or average time frame that it takes for one to "take" in the mammal world and so on, I would have to say yes. Things would be different under lab conditions with us controlling the procedure, of course."

"If you have no other questions for me at the moment, I would like to get a religious overview."

"Thank you. Cardinal Venetti, could you give us your input from a theological perspective?"

Venetti scratched his nose and grinned. " Off the record?"

"This is no time for dogma..."

"First of all, to be tied to any religion does not mean a person is deaf, dumb and blind, though sometimes it helps. I was gratified to hear from the others just how accurate the Bible described creation, but it should not surprise anyone. Research coming in from all over the world shows a common thread in all saga or legend, if you prefer, regarding the start of everything. All have things in common.

The more the legends are questioned and examined, the more they change to suit what man believes in the present and this has been going on for a long time. For example, the first known major warfare dates back no farther than 5800 years ago. The legends are different, but the problem becomes the dating of the occurrence which supposedly took place. Ancient Greek history is a fine example of this.

Hesiod is credited for writing history in the form of his Theogony, and yet when facts are all examined, Moses most likely deserves that honor or if you prefer folk tales, Gilgamesh for that matter. "

George nodded his head in agreement and waited for the chairman to speak.

"What do you think is the largest problem with translating ancient writings to date?"

"Words whose concepts or meanings have changed through popular usage. Chaos is a fine example. The oldest meaning we can find for the word seems to be simply void or space. Yesterday one of the young security people here watched a hawk take another bird in flight over the compound. His comment was "knarley". When I asked him what he meant by that, what he explained to me was a concept that encompassed so many things it was as if he was writing an essay with one word. Ancient man was no different than that young man!"

"When do you feel modern history began?"

"Just as soon as man could put concepts to song. With the advent of musical song man had an easy way of remembering certain data or information he felt he should keep, and accent emotional information with beat and chord or discord if you prefer."

Zebreski cleared his throat and looked up at the cardinal. "Who does legend give credit for that? "

"It is somewhat confused between Prometheus and Apollo from the ancient Greek standpoint. The Bible credits the line of Cain in Genesis, the Sumerians credit Enki. Now I know anthropologists may argue woman sang first to soothe the child, but there is a world of difference between melodious crooning to a baby, like a mother cat purrs to its kittens, and the complexity of actual song. The marriage of speech and melody for record keeping was no small accomplishment. All tales of creation seem to agree that music was a gift from the gods or God."

Zebreski broke in. "Break time, and we will resume tomorrow with a list of questions that come from an anonymous source. I was handed what appears to be a very interesting gene analysis from a male and female of the primate family. I would like to study it. The meeting is over."

O.O. smiled as he watched the video monitor. Miles had his game and that simply was to keep freedom intact, but he was never really free to began with. The president wants to keep peace and have prosperity for all, George thirsted for knowledge, David was acting in his religion's behalf as well as his country's, and Doc was still seeking his own spiritual peace. They were no different than others he had known. As soon as the child was born, he thought it best to go back into the mountains.

He remembered what Adam had told him after his return from the real Eden, the off world one. Those from the system of the Shining Planet were very upset after he had finished his long and frightening voyage, piloting his own ship they had supplied after Enki trained him.

Eden was the garden spot and agricultural planet, while the other inhabited world, Alpha, was the manufacturing technological center. They mined the other two planetoids of the system while drawing their heat and energy from the giant radiant planet that would later be called Marduk by mankind.

Adam stated he did not get to see all of this, but was shown what could only be described as videos. He had been offered immortality, which in reality was only longevity for the gods' lifetimes were 120 shars, or 432,000 earth years if stasis was not employed. Adam flatly told him he did not trust the Nephilim and refused the substances that would alter his genes again.

When the Old One asked him why not, he just shrugged and stated he just listened to the Spiritual Side which told him it was not good for man to live so long in the flesh when the mind had run out of memory...and the old Nephilim became forgetful, spiteful and jealous to the extent they were capable of anything...

Anton was as tired as he looked when he opened the meeting at eight o'clock the next morning. Someone had found the missing link. There would be no Neanderthal/Cro-Magnon cross ever found. It was impossible without artificial help. He had to know at all costs where the samples used in the report originated from. One sample did not contain any known mitrochondria, but some muted type and everything animal on earth had the one form in common. The secret to what man is would be found in the active genes. He knew now the secret of what man was would be found in the junk genes, and there were hundreds of them. He opened the meeting for the space people and physicists, appointed a substitute, and signaled George Landau to meet him outside the room.

"Is something wrong, Anton?" George innocently asked once they were in the hallway.

"You bet your ass there is, and you are in it up to your necks, you and the other three silent partners that sit next to you. You found the remains of an extra-terrestrial and the only possible human genetic bridge. My computer told me that at four this morning. The tests told me the female was pregnant and the male sample donor was the only possible father. For God's sake, I can help you!"

George nodded his head. "O.K., come with me. There are some people you should meet that can answer many of your questions..."

The Old One waited anxiously until Gay and Anton came through the door of the examining room. "Are you finished?" He asked.

Anton smiled. "All done for now. I am satisfied you are the donors and the tests run on you people are accurate. I do have some questions about your eyes. Normal albino stock have pink irises but your eyes are normal. They have been replaced at some time which makes it easier for you in the day light. Was that the reason for replacement?"

O.O. shock his head negatively. "My eyes were replaced because they would not function at all in the daylight. There were problems with some of us that had spent all the years underground living in what you would call an altered light spectrum. We were caught between two species of gods and you are examining tissue from my wife that just has those two sets of genes present. Man stock from earth was not the only experiment taking place at that time. The gods were trying to change themselves also, trying to permanently adapt to this planet, and we were the vehicle they chose to work with. At first, they had to use our blood to survive."

Zebreski nodded in acceptance of the spoken material just given to him by the small man. In the three hours he was with these people his entire concept of man had been

twisted and changed."The religious factions are not going to like the news when it is broken."

O.O. chuckled. "Why should they take offense? Nothing has changed for them. The Creator is the Creator and that has nothing to do with the lessor gods. They are held to the same rules we are. Just as the Creator uses man as a tool to accomplish His purpose on earth, He uses other forms of man also. If the lessor gods transgress against us, they will answer for it on the spiritual side, the other plane, just as we will. They are held to the same Universal Law we are."

Anton shook his head. "Believe me when I say they will not see it that way. More people have been killed on this planet in the name of religion than for any other reason. The area you originated from is nothing more than a bucket of blood. Haven't all of you figured out what this conference really is about? No organized religion, no controls... Your a threat!"

Gay felt the child move and adjusted herself for comfort. "What my husband has told you is true, but religious war did not start on this planet. Those called the Titans and Olympians, my people, carried this concept to Earth with them. Before that, man was no more violent than what you would call the gorilla. I was born of the ships and never knew anything other than corridors, space and stasis, and yet my own people fought each other from time to time and we were fleeing the Titans."

"Are you telling me you purposely bred us for violence?"

Gay shook her head. "No! You just think you are violently disposed, but we had to destroy most of the first generation's offspring because we made mistakes and lots of them. They were not just violent but evil, so vile you could not even began to comprehend what it was like...they had no controls, no good/bad balance that ties us to the spiritual Creator. They were terrifying!"

"A genetic engineering mistake?"

"We were just learning, and out of desperation..."

"Because of the war you were speaking of?"

"There are two forces in the universe and one is not acceptable to us any more than it is to you. There will be a final war some day and good will overcome evil, but until that time we shall have to fight or be consumed by forces so dark that you could not conceive them. These forces exist on the spiritual side as well as the physical reality we know in the flesh. We were not the only ones would made engineering mistakes, and we all add to the Universal Mind. Why is it so hard for your people to understand this?"

"Maybe it is because your people purposely led us to believe you were gods, and misguided us! We were like children compared to you..."

Gay shook the forming tears from her eyes. "The same thing happened to my people and we paid the same terrible price you have. We also sacrificed our children to the lessor gods so long ago out of ignorance and from the guidance of priests from the Dark Side. Death is nothing more than sending the Spirit back to be reprocessed, but if it occurs prematurely it is not considered acceptable. We allowed no human sacrifice when we were present on this planet, and arranged for the destruction of those who did practice this abomination. Most of us want the same thing you do, peace and love..."

Anton sadly shook his head. "How many have died for peace and love, and are dying in different parts of this world right at the very moment? What will be the result when our two factions meet again? Will brother kill brother?"

Gay looked at him and simply stated, "This time it will be up to you. You glorified monkeys were made in our likeness and image. My people are coming and it is not our choice that both planetary systems have to suffer. I know one thing for sure and that is this senseless slaughter on this planet has to cease..."

Anton looked at O.O. and shrugged his shoulders. "I think the young lady has implied there will be peace in this valley if she has to kill everyone in it to make sure!"

O.O. looked thoughtfully around the table for a moment and then broke the tension lightly stating, "So what is new in your village today?"

"I think my curiosity has just got me into more hot water than I ever thought was possible."

"O.O. looked at him sympathetically. "What are you going to do now?"

"Hell, I have a script to go by and that is exactly what I am going to follow until I choose the right moment to spring my findings on them. I'll tell you straight off they are going to request you physical presence, so be prepared..."

That afternoon Anton called Venetti to the floor. "Cardinal Venetti, would you say Eden is a concept or a place."

"Both! It is the definition conceptual root of what we call paradise, and the Bible is very explicit about a name place location to the point of giving directions."

"What if Eden were located elsewhere, say off planet?"

"Cultures around the world describe what the Hebrews call Eden, and they all locate it on Earth."

Zebreski smiled. "If I was a man and my last name was Eden, and I had a place that would become defined as a garden, as soon as the concept of "garden" was understood, and someone pointed to it and asked you what it was, what would your reply most likely be?"

"From the standpoint of a linguist, Eden's garden..."

"Isn't that the same thing as "the garden of Eden"?"

Venetti looked suddenly uncomfortable " Yes, it could be construed that way."

"Now if I and others came from a place called Eden and this was known by all parties, and I built the garden, what would you call it?"

"The same thing...the garden of Eden."

"That time you said "the garden of Eden", instead of Eden's garden. Why?"

Venetti frowned. "Ingrained respect, I guess. I too am a product of my environment. It better denotes the plurality of the situation in words. You went from singular to plural and that changed my pattern of thinking. Let me explain it this way. If your name was America and you came from a country called America, and it was your country's garden and not your own personal possession, people would have a tendency this day and age to call it the garden of America to avoid confusion."

"If this were was such a special place, why wasn't it called God's Garden by Moses?"

"The Bible stated God planted it and the translation implied The Creator. God created the earth, therefore He created the garden. Moses was supplying a physical location that others could understand which implied paradise lost."

Anton looked around the conference table and then back at Venetti. "What is the meaning of the word Nephilim?"

"It is somewhat obscure, being of old Greek in which the bible was translated to, but we think it means "sky beings or cloud beings". This is a case of an obscure conceptual word being translated into another obscure conceptual word in another language which has changed considerably through the millennium."

"Where were these Nephilim located?"

"In the earth..."

"Who were the sons of God?"

"The official position..."

Anton interrupted. "If you feel you have to take the Vatican's position, use the Theogony instead of the Bible to answer the question.

" Venetti looked relieved. "Hesiod calls them the Titans and their offspring were known as the Olympians. Since all life came from the Creator, all life is related through God."

"In the Theogony, when does man occur upon the scene?"

"Man is a product of the Titans when Chronos ruled the heavens. Called the Golden Race, the generation died out and took it's place in the spirit world to watch over the deeds of men. Hesiod tells of the Golden Race who lived in paradise, the silver race created by the Olympians, who were also responsible for the Bronze Race, the Hero Race and the Iron Race of man. We are supposed to be the Iron race, and were created by Zeus, as all earthmen were with the exception of the Golden race."

"Five races to present from the time Chronos ruled the heavens. Now where did Chronos come from?"

Venetti smiled. "He was the product of heaven and earth. Heaven, called Uranus, was born of Earth, called Gaea, without sex. Heaven than mated with Earth to produce virtually everything, including Chronos and the rest of the Titans."

"Then who is the Creator?"

"He who created both Heaven and Earth in the physical sense. We call Him God. The real God, the Spiritual One, the Loving One."

Anton checked his notes. "Define the word "angel" please."

"Messenger..."

"Why did you not say spiritual messenger?"

"That evolved with word usage. I defined it in it's original Hebrew to Greek form. To become an a spiritual messenger or angel, one has to shed his physical form."

"You mean die? "

"No one really "dies" in the sense you make of it. Look at it as a scientist as a change of state of energy level."

"Then a spiritual messenger is the same thing as a physical messenger, just on a different energy level?"

"Precisely. Why am I beginning to feel I am on trial here? This is supposed to be a scientific meeting, not a theology discussion! "

Anton paused. It was time to smooth ruffled feathers. "I am sorry, I got carried away. You are here because of your language ability and this is not a court room. If I were to supply you with concrete scientific evidence that a good portion of your genetic material came from off planet, what would your religious position be?"

Venetti was stunned. Suddenly bits and pieces of the meeting began to fall in place, seemly unrelated information began to take true direction, a frightening direction to the Cardinal. Babylon....

Murmurs began around the table and the group from NASA looked stricken, every person from that organization thinking of the Sumerian Transcripts....

Venetti shook his head gently. "It would not change for me. We realize there are huge holes in Bible and other works chronologically. This is why we try to avoid the Old Testament and concentrate on the new one this day and age. The Spirit is the Spirit and if there is other physical life in the universe it also would be ruled according to God's dictums. There are two stories of evolution in Genesis, if you have studied the book, one which implies both female and male sprang from the evolutionary process, and one that states only Adam did and Eve was made from Adam. In reality it changes nothing."

It was at this time the arrival of the president was announced and everyone turned to watch the people file into the room and take their seats.

The president looked around the table and then started in. "You are most likely wondering where this conference is leading and why. Let me say this to set the final tone of this meeting. The Earth has been receiving visitors for thousands of years, and it seems these beings have been meddling somewhat in mankind's affairs for reasons unknown fully at this time. We have good reason to believe some of them wish to impede technological advancement of our species."

There was dead silence now in the room.

"How many terrible wars have been started because them Sky god or gods directed the activity. How many times have our records been put to the torch, cultures destroyed, and mankind scattered. I do not think we really will ever know. Here are the facts we have to examine, located in this tapes you are about to see. We have some decisions to make..."

Miles sat on the bench and stared out at the landscape, suddenly feeling bone tired. He wondered how the enemy was doing...
Hesphaes was stunned. The reports from the others told him something had drastically gone wrong, and his computer kept maintaining there was nothing wrong. The Tri-Omega system was functioning well. He wished he could get back to Switzerland, but the conference was of primary importance and the technical problems would have to wait.

Years previously when the system was designed the question of failure had come up time and again. After all the ensuing arguments caused by this question were finished, a much smaller version of the machine was also created separately from the mother system, and placed in the Andes mountains of South America.

There was only one slight problem involved with the system switch. One machine had to totally cease functioning before the other was employed. As the back-up system was in the embryo stage, it would set the original plan back an entire generation, and that was an unthinkable solution to Niacson. This caused him to hesitate in his decision and that became fatal to all the preplanning. Making sure his doubles were still functioning and in place, he called for a helicopter to transport him back to Camp David.

Venetti walked into the sunshine and the light difference caused him to rub his eyes. The conference was almost entirely scientific physics at this point and his presence was really not required. Spotting Miles sitting on the bench, the Cardinal started walking toward the engineer.

Miles noted the priest was heading his way and moved over to make room. The old man smiled as he sat down.

"They are talking way over may head, young man."

"Talk is cheap, father Venetti. Will they choose to do anything about the situation is the question."

"What can they do? We have spent billions of dollars watching space for the arrival or return of something and there has been no contact."

Miles smiled. "There has been no official contact. I am privy to information you will hear later today. Our technology is not of much use when it come to tracking them.

By the time we notice them, they are already here. Do you know what this place was built for? "

"It was built as a retreat in case of nuclear war and a special conference area, according to the executive branch. Later it was replaced with Mt. Weather. Your president Eisenhower innovated it in this country, but it is not a new idea."

"It was built because of an incident called "Hanger 13". Have you ever noticed just how far governments will go to stifle reports of U.F.O.'s?"

"Ah...the gods from outer space and the denial of their existence. There are many books on that subject, and some of them are very well written. America does not have a patent on this, you know."

"How does the Vatican handle the situation?"

"The same way it handles miracles. Not all records are kept, Miles. The Vatican is a government, a holy one, but a government none the less and like all governments it's

policies change with administration. Because of Church structure this change is very slow in general, very conservative. In some areas we must abide by Caesar's proclamations."

"Keep thy mouth shut... and perpetuate thyself at all costs."

"You said it. We had better slide over, young man. I see our geneticist is about to join us."

Miles turned his head and caught sight of Zebreski striding toward them. Another escapee from the physicists, he thought.

"Mind if I join you?"

"Be our guest, Anton. We see they ran you out, also."

"They are still arguing the feasibility of star flight. I am quite satisfied it exists, even if we didn't invent it."

Venetti chuckled, then turned seriously curious. "Anton, if we were creating a hybrid, a cross breed of two species, what could we expect to characteristically materialize in the future generations?"

"Damn near anything, at first. First of all the two subjects must be genetically close enough to do this. It is tough to cross a mammal and a plant. Secondly, the more genes available in the organisms, the more variables are sure to raise their ugly little heads and these variables may not have the desired characteristics anticipated by the scientist."

Miles frowned in thought. "You mean it is easier two create a third biped from two other bipeds, for example."

"It helps, however one of the subjects could have been a biped at one time who evolved out of his legs and with proper manipulation of the genetic material you could end up with a biped, but some where down the line through the generations legless bipeds would show up. If they are not allowed to breed that genetic coding could ultimately die out. The changing or renewal of certain genes could be done with viral gene implants in conjunction with anti-rejection drugs. We would be talking long term experiments. There would have to be periodic adjustments."

Venetti leaned back on the bench. "We used to play a game in the seminary when I was younger that was amusing from time to time. I would start a story, tell it for a short length of time, and the next person in line would pick up the plot and continue on. The story never ended the way I originally envisioned it at the start. Life is like that."

Miles turned to them and winked. "The first line was perfect, the second simple, the third violent, the forth brave and the fifth tough."

Venetti smiled. "The first was golden, the second silver, the third bronze, the forth heroic and the fifth iron."

Zebreski looked at the other two and grinned. "The first police the overworld, the second work the underworld, the third destroyed themselves, the fourth were rewarded for helping the gods and the fifth are waiting for the return."

Miles took his turn. "The place names are now Offworld, Onworld and Inworld."

Venetti then added, "Offworld fell on Onworld creating all life including the children of God, his tools to modify the physical universe."

"The planets were seeded from space creating all life, and these conflicting tools came from Offworld to Onworld to create man in the same image using the existing rules for life dictated by this Onworld." Anton hesitated then added. "They were being fruitful and multiplying, which was one of the Universal Laws. Because of environment, genes had to be altered."

Miles looked up thoughtfully. "Some hybrids were not desirable and were separated from the others and placed Inworld which were mines located in Underworld, which was everything below the equator away from Onworld, which was also known as Upperworld or anything above the Equator."

"Offworld had to leave Onworld to resolve conflict Offworld. Offworld returned to Onworld and discovered Underworld and Upperworld were no longer separate, undesirable genes had been mixed back in. Offworld destroys the hybrids except for certain selected material," Venetti intoned. "This was done with climate changes."

"Offworld leaves again and allows Onworld to build population, and upon return disperses hybrids from Offworld's prime location in Upperworld, above the Equator. This cycle continues." Zebreski added.

"Hybrids from Onworld join with Offworld to help resolve Offworld conflict problem and are rewarded by being taken Offworld. The Creator finds hybrids losing touch with spiritual Universal Law and uses His tools to correct the problem, Jesus being one of them, reminding life it is controlled from the spiritual world, not the physical one," Miles finished. "I wonder if this is the Universal Story..."

"If it is it all boils down to the amount of Universal real estate available that will support our type of life form and population density. At the moment our technology quarantines us anyway," Anton observed.

"They will see that we are not that rapid to advance. They saw to it when Egypt took out Sumer, and made the other established areas pay tribute, the first recorded war for man. They saw to it in 1190 B.C. when they took out the Mycenaen civilization, and then follow the threads of our major set backs from a technological standpoint and start answering the question when did war start scientific engineering advancement?" Miles mused.

"Only in this century, Miles, if ever. Some gains could in reality be losses. Atomic power would be a good example. There is nothing good gained in a killing war, no matter how the history books are written. What were our gains for the 20th century? The airplane was invented before the major wars and so was the radio, rocket and submarine. That leaves atomic power and radar which ultimately would have occurred in the direction research was already focused on. The transistor, gene splicing, and space flight were also peace time inventions.

The greatest scientific community at the turn of the century was Europe. The entire structure of Europe was changed in this time frame, many of the scientists evacuating to America, as well as other countries not involved in the second conflict when Europe was shattered. A set-back for mankind," Venetti added. "The war in Viet Nam and Afghanistan crippled mans' progress into space."

Miles just stared at the leaves on the ground, then softly spoke up. "The Torah, Bible and Koran started with Abraham from Moses. God was so removed physically how could he give someone like Moses the right believable signal to motivate him?"

"All men knew the story of the serpent in the garden. What happened when Moses through his staff down? It turned into a serpent... The signal from Yahweh was just that simple."

"Jesus! For a priest you sure have a broad view of events!" Miles exploded.

Venetti looked strangely at Miles. "So did Jesus. So did the Sumerians for that matter."

The Sumerians, Miles thought to himself as the others left to eat. Always it comes back to them. The Greeks got their Theogony from the Hurrians, who in reality were the guardians of the gateway to the gods. All of these things were dim memories by the time of the Romans. They were dim memories by the time of Abraham for that matter.

If one just took all of the ancient texts, put the proper names in the proper places and threw out the embellishment, everything fell into place reasonably well. Mankind had been directed toward the spiritual side, a truism that made the act possible, and shunted away from the technical areas, especially those involving astronomy and flight. The Church fought tooth, nail and claw to keep mankind's eyes on the ground.

It was like O.O. had stated when they were coming out of the mountains. The first law of any ruling faction was that anything was fair regarding the survival of the faction. Any change had to come from within the elite ranks, as the group as a whole controlled everything with an iron fist... If the elite faction were all related, it would and could come down to brother against brother, or son against father.

Miles started walking back toward the complex, his forehead wrinkled in thought. Now suppose a family were given a planet as a reward for services rendered, just as explorers were often given an island or governorship for services rendered to a king or queen...

He looked up in time to keep from bumping into the door. As he entered, another thought flashed into his mind. If the ancient texts were true, the Golden Race were the police of the Spiritual Side. The Earth had to be someone's physical inheritance, and they were still in control...
