"Great place to stay. |
Salmon fishing and Westport are synonymous, but there are many other species of fish that are also caught by sports anglers.
Halibut, tuna and ling cod are all eagerly pursued by charter boats. Bottom fishing for a host of other species and an ongoing fishing derby makes Westport popular with sports fishers from throughout the world. Westport is home to the largest charter fishing fleet in Washington, so you have plenty of opportunities to fish the open ocean. If you want to stay on land and fish, there is also very good surf and jetty fishing for sea perch, bass, rock cod and other species within steps of the Harbor Resort. If you want, you can literally fish from the deck of your cottage. |

Sea bass, perch, greenling, cabazon and ling cod are the Boat Basin anglers' targets throughout the year, but in the fall salmon become the premier trophy.
Some 20,000 coho salmon return to the Boat Basin, where they were released three years earlier. Each year about 200,000 salmon smolt (baby salmon) are raised and released from net pens in the Boat Basin in a joint effort of the Harbor Resort, the Port of Grays Harbor, the Westport Kiwanis and the Ocosta School District. By the first week of October anglers are pulling 15-19-pound silver salmon from the Boat Basin. Occasional kings are caught and fishers can keep six salmon a day, including four adults. We also have a tackle and bait shop on the premises with a friendly, informative staff to help supply you with all your fishing needs. Whether you are an experienced angler looking for the best place to fill the smoker or a beginner out for your first salt water fishing experience, the Harbor Resort is a necessary stop. |
