Bird Watching

Birds lift your soul.

"Third time here feeding the seagulls, walking on the deck. We recommend this place to all our friends."

Whether it is watching the graceful lines of the herons in the morning tidepools or seeing a turkey-sized pelican dive from the sky for its herring dinner, there are plenty of delightful sights for birdwatchers.

California brown pelicans make their summer home in the north Pacific and can be readily observed from the Harbor Resort. Groups of these stately birds glide over the water, rising when they spot their food and then diving beak-first like prehistoric pterodactyls.

Other flocks of tiny birds dart about, the whole flock turning in unison to show their lighter bottom side before turning back to display their darker top side. The flickering camouflaging technique works well.

Then there are the loons, cormorants, gulls and other birds that make their homes in the area. These various birds provide endless entertainment as they go about their daily lives, diving for food, sleeping on the water or stalking the tidepools.
