THE OLYMPIANS CAMP AND TRAIL RULES

 

THE LEADER:

 

1.  Is in command of the party from the time of leaving until returning. Obey the leader and do not travel ahead of the leader or behind the rear guard except with permission of the leader.

 

2.  Shall set a pace that can be held by all with sufficient rest on all hikes. No evening hike will be over "moderate paced" hike as this is a social time for the Olympians.

 

3.  Should scout or be familiar with the area since he/she will decide on lunch places, campground, etc.  If a campfire is desired the leader should obtain a permit from the proper authority; must extinguish entirely all campfires and leave the campgrounds in good condition; shall collect trail fees when applicable.

 

4.  Is in charge of all equipment belonging to the organization taken on trips and responsible for the return of the same in a sanitary condition. Has charge of purchasing all foodstuffs for the trip.

 

5.  On all hazardous trips the leader will appoint an assistant(s) to help in emergency situation(s) where the party might have to separate. On all backpack or climbing trips the leader will appoint rear guard(s).

 

6.    Must see that all hikers registered on hazardous trips and should take no unnecessary risks and should consult with experience veterans on the trip.

 

7.  Should see that new members and guests are introduced and made to feel at home in the group.

 

8.  Be sure to pick up people at all meeting places and try to keep drivers together, make sure at each turn that all cars have arrived and make sure drivers know how to get to the final destination in case the cars get separated.

 

9.  Has the authority to refuse to take any hiker not properly clothed, equipped and in physical condition for the hike, backpack or climb.

 

10.  Dogs, firearms and alcohol are not allowed on any hikes, backpacks and climbs.

 

11.  Persons 18 years and older can be members of the Olympians. Check with the hike leader before bringing children under age 14 on any hike not designated a family hike. Parents must take responsibility for the supervision and safety of their children.

 

12.   If you are a passenger on an official Olympians outing, please offer to help pay travel expenses. We suggest paying the driver 10 cents a mile.

 

13.  Can change the destination but you have to keep the same meeting time and place. Original hike miles can be shortened but can not be lengthened.

 

THE LEADER SHOULD GO TO THE MEETING PLACE TO INFORM PEOPLE, WHO SHOW UP, THAT THE HIKE HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

 

IF YOU ARE ASKED TO BE A LEADER OF A TRIP CONSIDER IT AN HONOR AND STRIVE TO MAKE YOUR TRIP A SAFE AND ENJOYABLE ONE.

 

IF YOU CANNOT LEAD YOUR HIKE PLEASE HAVE SOMEONE TO SUBSTITUTE THE HIKE FOR YOU OR CALL THE HIKES CHAIRPERSON.
