Jean, Hi, great site, fascinating subjects! I see you are
another interesting, multitalented, individual from a long line of them. :) A
linage which my two sons, Paul and Charles Walters, your great nephews I
believe, are fortunate enough to be included among. I'm Mark's ex, and though
we never actually met while he and I were married, I heard many wonderful
things about you from him, Nan, and Toddy during my years living at Buena Vista.
It's funny but just yesterday I was saying to my oldest, Paul, that its
unfortunate that no one's written a book about the Col.'s life and the old RBV
days, and then I stumbled onto your site! Good for you, and for sure I'll be
reading your book(s) ASAP! Feel free, if you wish, to respond anytime to the
email address listed here. Sincerely, Diane Walters

I to have written a book, "I Can Hear The Guns
Now", but it is about my father's time in WW II. He was only in the Army
for 8 months from his induction to his wartime death in Hurtgen Forest, Germany.
He wrote 84 letters home and and I have put all of them in the book, just as
they were written. This story is told from a very personal viewpoint of how WW
II affected one man and his family. Please look at the book's website:
WWW.ICANHEARTHEGUNSNOW.COM for more information about him, me, and how to order
the book. I am donating $2.00 from the sale of each book to The National World
War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. Respectfully yours, Thomas G. Ratliff

Greetings from a fellow author! I am in the process of
publishing my autobiography also. Born in l938 and raised in the USA during the
"all things German are bad" phase, my geneology research
(Czech/German) discovered ten years of hand written letters from Leipzig
l945-55. When translated, these letters give graphic descriptions of war torn
relatives begging for food, shoes, fat, coats, etc. from my grandfather, Wm.
Vogler of Cleveland, Ohio. They describe amputations w/little medication,
babies born during the bombing raids of Dresdon/Leipzig, mothers seeking potato
skins from farmers, anything edible to sustain their families. While
confronting my own struggles (health/divorce), these voices pointed out the
need for inner strength. I cannot wait to read your book, I hope you will look
for mine; MAKING WAVES IN THE GENE POOL. Thanks, and good luck, Carol Vogler

Hi Jean, Your book looks extremely interesting. I will
have to order a copy to read. My grandpa Baumann came to the states before WW2
broke out. He took a trip back to visit his family in Stuttgart(sp?), Germany
just before the war broke out. He had 12 other siblings. On his way back, the
war broke out as the boat pulled into the harbor and there was some
consideration as to whether or not to let him into the country again, but they
finally did. He took one "N" off the end of his name because he said
it looked too Jewish. Do you know why that would be since we are not Jewish at
all? Any info you might know about this would be helpful to me as I am trying
to research and find any relatives we may have in Germany yet. Thanks! Lesa
