The Beginning

Our racing career began in the late 1980's as a joint venture between two friends with motorcycles.

1990

In early 1990, B & R Racing became an auto racing venture, with the ownership taken over by Bob and Rob Johnson, hence the name B & R Racing. It started with the purchase of a $200 Bomber class car.

1991

In 1991, B & R Racing purchased a 1970 Chevrolet Camaro to build a new Bomber, but when the promoters of Grays Harbor Raceway Park changed hands, new rules came into effect and the Camaro construction became a Street Stock project.

Our Street Stock career was pretty rough for the first couple of seasons; with having to learn how to build a quality motor, and the tricks of the new car class, but we slowly got our act together.

1993

In 1993, we started showing signs of accomplishment. We finished the season with our first top 10 finish, finishing 9th.

1994

In 1994 we finished 8th overall without any 1st place finishes.

1995

The 1995 season became the high point in our Street Stock career. At the end of the season we finally won several heat races, trophy dashes, and two main event races to put us in 3rd place overall. That was the season when the Street Stock points were very close between the top three cars, and the last few races were tight, but we held on and ended up finishing third overall. This brought on the ambition to move onto BIGGER and BETTER things! At the end of the 1995 season, B & R Racing purchased a 1989 Tognotti Sprint Car. It was a deluxe kit, so we began the task of assembling the car.

1996

With the 1996 season at hand and no sure sign of getting the Sprinter done in time, we made the choice to keep racing the Street Stock car. We raced most of the season until August. The Sprint Car was finished so we disassembled and sold the Street Stock .

We were planning to make our debut during the late 1996 season, but the weather had other plans and the last three scheduled races were rained out. With great dismay we ended up traveling with another group of racers to Chico, California for the Pacific Coast Sprint Championships. It was pretty scary for our first race - there were about 100 sprinters from all over Washington, Oregon and California attending and most of them were pretty good racers. We ended up learning a lot, and having fun.

1997

The 1997 season brought on a new challenge: Forget everything we learned in the Street Stock class and begin learning new things. We raced the whole season at Grays Harbor Raceway Park and a few Northern Sprint Tour races and ended up finishing 2nd for the 1997 season! We were very pleased with this accomplishment in our first full season in a Sprinter!

1998

The 1998 season also brought on a very new challenge with the financial drain of a divorce and having very few sponsors. The sole support of the Sprinter was our own pockets. We were not even sure if we could race the 1998 season, but somehow we found it possible to fund the program. We made a good go of it, had a few good finishes, and a pretty good crash. We hit a turning point in the season, and were able to put together a new 360 engine and replace the old, bent, Tognotti with a 1997 Maxim kit. We took a break during the World of Outlaws show and put the new racecar together, which was another learning experience. With only a couple races left to finish out the 1998 season, we ended up placing 4th overall for the season. We also managed to return to Chico, California and race the 1998 Pacific Coast Sprint Championships, which was a great way to finish out the season.

1999

In 1999 we hope to have a great season at Grays Harbor Raceway Park and be able to race more of the Northern Sprint Tour. Please bookmark our page and return to it for updated pictures, as well as finding out what we’ll be up to next.
